After its successful debut concert in August, local early music ensemble Red Dot Baroque will be presenting a concert at CHIJMES on the theme of love and its many different forms of expression.

The orchestra has recently become the Ensemble-in-Residence of the newly formed musical organization Sing’Baroque.

This is also Sing’Baroque’s first concert since its inception. Red Dot Baroque will present baroque works by composers such as Vivaldi, Purcell, Biber, Couperin and Lambert.

Red Dot Baroque’s members include baroque violinists Alan Choo, Gabriel Lee, Brenda Koh and Placida Ho, baroque violist Chen Zhangyi, cellist Leslie Tan, bassist Edmund Song, baroque flutists Cheryl Lim and Rachel Ho, harpsichordists Gerald Lim and Mervyn Lee, and some pieces also involve soprano Lilith Verhelst.

Red Dot Baroque’s debut was very successful. Many people’s impressions of baroque music only center around the music of Bach, Vivaldi and Handel, but in actual fact, different composers from England, France, Italy, etc. all had distinctive forms of expression and musical styles. By choosing to perform some lesser-known works, Red Dot Baroque provides a new and fresh experience for the Singaporean audience.

Artistic Director Alan Choo is currently pursuing his doctoral studies in historical performance practice at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, USA, under the tutelage of Julie Andrijeski.
